Province of Bologna

The province stretches from the Po plain in the north to the Apennine ridge in the south, encompassing the city of Bologna and dozens of smaller comuni along the old Roman and medieval trade routes.

Emigration: The province saw significant emigration to North and South America between 1880 and 1930, particularly from the Apennine comuni to the south of the city.
